VON DER TAVERNE ZUM HOTEL

Oft werden wir von unseren Gästen gefragt, wieso unser Hotel eigentlich „Herrschaftstaverne“ heißt. Dieser Name rührt aus einer Zeit, als unser Hotel noch eine „Taverne“ war, sprich ein Gasthaus. Bis zum Jahr 1803 wurde Haus im Ennstal von Pflegern und Amtsleuten des Salzburger Erzbistums verwaltet, die natürlich gern herrschaftlich speisten. Der Name „Herrschaftstaverne“ leitet sich vom alten Gastwirtschaftsrecht aus der Zeit der Salzburgischen Herrschaft ab, bürgerte sich mit der Zeit ein und blieb dem Haus bis heute erhalten.

 

Heute wird das Hotel von uns, Diethard und Claudia Steger und unseren Söhnen Christoph, Lorenz, Josef und Paul geführt. Ganz so lange sind wir mit der Herrschaftstaverne zwar noch nicht verbunden, aber immerhin können wir auf eine rund 100-jährige gemeinsame Geschichte zurückblicken: In den Besitz der Familie Steger kam der „Gasthof zur Herrschaftstaverne“ im Jahr 1907, als er von Karl und Julie Lackner, der Tante von Anna Steger, gekauft wurde. Da sie kinderlos blieben, übergaben sie den Hof später an Anna Steger, die fortann gemeinsam mit ihrem Mann Josef den Betrieb führte. Ab 1965 übernahmen der gemeinsame Sohn Josef und seine Frau Herta Steger das Ruder.

1979 war ein bedeutendes Jahr in der bewegten Geschichte der Herrschaftstaverne, denn in diesem Jahr wurde das alte Haus abgerissen und komplett neu gebaut. Dieser Mut zur Veränderung und Erneuerung setzte sich ab diesem Zeitpunkt fort: Seither wurde am Haus fast jedes Jahr etwas zu- und umgebaut. Sei es das Schwimmbad, unser Wintergarten, der Turm, die gemütlichen Stuben, die Bar, unsere Zimmer oder die Landwirtschaft … Und wir haben schon wieder neue Ideen – unser nächstes Projekt ist die Neugestaltung des Wellnessbereichs.
